The new Flip Mino HD will surely delight those who had fun using its predecessors. Although there is no tremendous difference between them; yet certain features of the new version makes it smarter than the earlier ones.

The new pocket camera seems to be slim; it is about 1.5 inches slimmer than the older models of the series. Its stunning metal body makes it a sight to behold. The soft rounded edges make it comfortable to hold even with one hand. It is a good change from the sharp edged plastic body.

The bigger and sharper new screen is 2 inches wide and has a video resolution of 1280 x 720. The best part about the new Mino HD is the capacity of its internal memory. It is now 8 GB, which is two times that of the earlier models. Further, the new model allows you to continuously watch videos for two hours instead of the earlier limit of 60 minutes. After the acquisition of Flip by Cisco, almost everything has been tweaked. The superior features of the new model are a sure shot sign of the same. The processor runs faster as well.

The HDMI port is a new feature that allows you to share videos on HD screens. Although this port was present in the previous models, it was closed with an ugly-looking cover. Now there is a small switch that needs to be pressed to swing it open and close. Smart eh! The downside is that a HDMI cable is not provided with the camera. You need to buy the cable separately.

There are certain things have not been taken care of. The lens, sensor and the ‘too sensitive’ touch pads that keep getting activated when accidentally touched, are all exactly the same as those of the earlier version. These features are very infuriating. The sensor is perfect for close up shots when the lighting is appropriate. While in low light it is hazy. Moreover, as the camera lacks an optical zoom, stills can be captured.

It is one of the simplest and easy to use pocket cameras suitable for recording videos. And it does not burn a hole into your pocket. The Kodak models are superior yet you cannot just ignore the Flip. However, in order to survive the intense competition provided by smart phones and ipod nano, both of which are known for their excellent performance, the Flip has to get rid of its flaws soon.
