Google Goes Corporate
Internal corporate WebSites numbers are massively growing in the past few years. These WebSites are used by the company workers to share information, files, images, diaries and many more.
This week Google announced Google Sites, which is Google’s way of competing with Microsoft SharePoint. Google’s new service is based on a technology by JotSpot which was acquired by Google 16 month ago.
Microsoft’s SharePoint comes as a part of Windows Server 2003. Microsoft SharePoint is currently installed in many organizations, public and private as one. Microsoft SharePoint allows the easy creation and design of an internal WebSite and gives the option to manage user based permissions. These WebSites play an important roll in the organization’s distribution of information and services to its employees.![]()
This service by Google is built from all the online tools, which we all know from Google Docs, that allow the members of the organization to easily work together on documents. shareing images, movies, audio files and video is also supported. The information will be stored on Google’s servers so the companies that use Google Sites will not need any servers for the internal WebSite, which means reduction in costs.
Unlike Microsoft SharePoint, Google Sites basic version will be free, a more advance version which includes a larger storage space and is more secure is about 50$ a year which is a very low price compared to the Microsoft SharePoint few hundreds of dollars per year licence .

My personal opinion is that no large company will entrust all their information with Google and that might be the biggest drawback or challenge Google is facing.
